📢 SSC Combined Hindi Translator Examination 2025 – Overview

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) is conducting the Combined Hindi Translators Examination 2025 for recruitment to Group ‘B’ Non-Gazetted posts such as:

  • Junior Hindi Translator (JHT)
  • Junior Translation Officer (JTO)
  • Senior Hindi Translator (SHT)
  • Senior Translator (ST)
  • Sub-Inspector (Hindi Translator) in CRPF

This exam is a golden opportunity for candidates with a strong background in Hindi and English languages to secure a Central Government job.

🧑‍🎓 Eligibility Criteria

Nationality:

Candidates must be:

  • Indian citizens or
  • Subjects of Nepal/Bhutan or
  • PIOs from select countries (with eligibility certificate)

Age Limit (as on 01.08.2025):

  • 18 to 30 years
  • Age relaxation applicable as per category (SC/ST – 5 years, OBC – 3 years, etc.)

Educational Qualification:

For JHT, JT, JTO (Post Codes A to C):

  • Master’s Degree in Hindi or English (with the other subject as elective)
  • AND Diploma in Translation or 2 years’ translation experience

For SHT (Post Code D):

  • Same as above + 3 years translation experience

For Sub-Inspector in CRPF (Post Code E):

  • Same as above
    • Must meet Physical & Medical standards (see below)

🧪 Selection Process

The selection process involves:

  1. Paper I (CBT – Objective)
    • General Hindi (100 marks)
    • General English (100 marks)
    • Duration: 2 hours
  2. Paper II (Descriptive)
    • Translation (Hindi ↔ English)
    • Essay writing in both languages
    • Marks: 200
    • Duration: 2 hours

Negative Marking: 0.25 for each wrong answer in Paper I.


📚 Detailed Syllabus

Paper I – General Hindi & General English

Questions will test:

  • Understanding of literature
  • Grammar and sentence structure
  • Use of idioms, phrases, and vocabulary
  • Writing skills and language fluency

Level: Graduate level

Paper II – Translation and Essay

  • One passage: Hindi → English
  • One passage: English → Hindi
  • Essay in Hindi and English
  • Focus: Precision, grammar, vocabulary, and coherence

🚨 Physical & Medical Standards (Only for Sub-Inspector CRPF)

Height:

  • Male: 165 cm (relaxation for ST & hilly area candidates)
  • Female: 155 cm

Chest (Male):

  • Unexpanded: 77 cm
  • Expanded: 82 cm

Eyesight:

  • Without glasses: 6/6 & 6/9

You can choose any three preferred centres across India. Once selected, exam centre change is not allowed.
