In today’s world, dreams know no boundaries — and UP Police Sub-Inspector Ankita’s story proves exactly that. Hailing from a humble background, Ankita not only broke societal stereotypes but also inspired countless young women aspiring to join the police force.

Currently posted in Agra, Ankita has been serving as a Sub-Inspector for the past six months. Her journey from a confused graduate to a confident officer in khaki is filled with hard work, determination, and a dash of destiny.

Early Life and Motivation

Ankita grew up in a family where government jobs were not considered a top priority. In fact, her brothers believed that the private sector offered better opportunities. However, Ankita had a different dream.

“Mujhe bachpan se government job ka craze tha. Papa ki death jab main chhoti thi, tab se lagta tha ki yeh ek power waali cheez hoti hai,” she recalls.

Though she wasn’t initially sure about joining the police, life took a turn when her cousin — himself a constable — suggested applying for the Sub-Inspector post. Convincing her family was not easy, especially because of the common belief in rural areas that police duty, especially for women, is unsafe. But her cousin managed to persuade her elder brother, who finally gave his support.

Finding the Right Coaching

The turning point came when she discovered RWA (Real Warrior Academy) during the COVID-19 period. With traditional classes disrupted and online learning still new, Ankita was unsure about where to begin.

After trying an online course elsewhere for a few days without much success, her cousin introduced her to RWA’s Hindi classes. She instantly connected with the teaching style and enrolled in their SI course.

“Maine bas SI ko target maana. Beech mein koi exam nahi diya. Notes banaye, mock tests diye, aur har Sunday test mein participate kiya,” she says proudly.

Her mock test scores steadily improved from around 260 to over 300 marks — a clear sign of progress.

The Exam Day

Ankita appeared for her exam in Agra — the same city where she is now posted. She recalls a memorable incident at the exam center, where a senior officer made a remark about her community joining the police. Determined, she replied confidently that she would soon meet him in the department — and she did.

Her calculated score was around 330, but a last-minute decision to change five to six answers cost her some marks, bringing the final tally to 307. Yet, it was enough to secure her selection.

Training and Salary

Sub-Inspector training lasts for a full year, which includes both physical training and practical learning under senior officers in police stations. Unlike earlier batches, Ankita’s batch received full salary during training, which was a pleasant surprise.

Family Support and Marriage Pressure

While her immediate family supported her dreams, relatives often pressured her mother to arrange her marriage. To avoid distractions and unnecessary interference, her brother took her to Noida, where she could focus solely on preparation.

“Mere bhai ne risk liya. Bola, tum bas padhai karo, main karaunga,” Ankita shares.

Challenges on the Job

Life in uniform is not without difficulties. The toughest part for Ankita has been dealing with dead bodies during duty.

“Paani mein mili ek dead body chaar din purani thi. Skin nikal gayi thi. Family bhi paas nahi jaana chahti thi. First time do din tak khana nahi kha paayi,” she admits.

Over time, she has learned to treat it as part of her duty. She also points out that women officers often have a slight advantage — they are never sent alone on night duty, and male colleagues are usually supportive.

Work Culture in the Police

Police duty is unpredictable. Sometimes, a late-night call demands immediate action, and female officers are even provided with a vehicle for safety in such situations.

“Ladke bolte hain tumhara sahi hai. Main bol deti hoon — tum bhi ladki ban jao,” Ankita laughs.

Her Time at RWA as Staff

After her selection but before joining the police, Ankita worked at RWA for a while. She managed community posts, created content from live classes, and scheduled YouTube sessions.

“Kaam mein load nahi tha. Masti-masti mein kaam hota tha,” she remembers fondly.

Ankita believes the police force is a great career choice for women who genuinely want to work and face challenges.

“Subah uthoge toh nahi pata hota aaj kya naya seekhne ko milega. Naye mein hi maza hai,” she says.
